What we do and why?
The Office and Institutional Research and Assessment (OIRA) provides and coordinates institutional research that helps inform the planning, decision-making, budgeting, assessment and accreditation processes that allow Hood College to fulfill its mission and strategic priorities.
Hood College is committed to student learning and excellence in teaching. Faculty and staff have the opportunity to explore how candid, reflective, and systematic review practices can lead to program and operational enhancement. The role of assessment and accreditation is framed by the College’s teaching and learning values as evidenced throughout Hood’s core curriculum, undergraduate and graduate programs, and co-curricular education.
Assessment of Institutional Effectiveness is designed to evaluate the overall effectiveness in achieving the mission and goals of the College and the compliance with the accreditation standards. It is also intended to consistently evaluate and improve the planning and budgeting activity of the institution towards realizing its mission.
The Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended by the Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008 (HEOA), requires institutions participating in federally funded financial aid programs to make information about the institution available to current and prospective students. The Consumer Information & Student Right-to-Know page serves as a central location for parents, students, employees, and the campus community to obtain information and resources.
To ensure consistency in reporting, the office performs the College data administration functions, producing or coordinating all official data reports for a variety of external (IPEDS, MICUA, MHEC, etc.) and internal accountability mandates.
The OIRA conducts a number of surveys to assess the educational experiences and outcomes of students (e.g., Admitted Student Questionnaire, Student Satisfaction Inventory, National Survey of Student Engagement, CIRP Freshman Survey, Undergraduate and Graduate Alumni Surveys) and data analysis that are used by many different departments within the College.
The OIRA provides reports (Fact Book), survey results (internal and external), and resources for internal use by Hood College faculty and staff. You are attempting to access a secured resource. In order to access the Hood College Intranet (Hoodtranet), you must have an active Hood College network account.
