A HOOD TRADITION CONTINUES: In December 1948 the choirs of Hood College and the United States Naval Academy joined to present Handel's "Messiah" at the Naval Academy. The rehearsal was held one week before at Hood and was open to the Frederick community. The rehearsal and performance schedule continued until 1958 when both choirs began performing the famous oratorio at each institution. Invited to live in his benefactor's house, he wreaks havoc among family members by breaking off the daughter’s engagement, attempting to seduce his hostess and resorting to blackmail and extortion. A discussion panel will follow the Friday night performance.

STARGAZING AT HOOD: Each Wednesday (when the College is open) through Dec. 7 the Williams Observatory will be open free of charge from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. for stargazing. Ken Howard, lecturer in astronomy at Hood, will be available to answer questions, and the observatory telescope and the portable telescopes will provide views of the planets and other popular celestial sights. Noel Lester, chair of the music department, and RoseAnn Markow Lester, instructor of violin and viola and director of the preparatory music division, will present selections from their new CD, "A Family Christmas." They will be joined by Marie Lester ’06, soprano; David Lester, guitarist and percussionist; and Mary Beth Pearce, instructor of piano, who will perform several piano duets with Noel Lester.
