Interlibrary Loan Policy
- Interlibrary Loan is an agreement among libraries all over the world to share books and journal articles.
- Most books and journal articles will arrive at Hood in 3-10 business days.
- We will notify you when the items are available for pickup.
Before placing an interlibrary loan request for a book, please search the ShaRC: online catalog, comprised of the library holdings of Baltimore International College, Columbia Union College, Loyola-Notre Dame University, Mount Saint Mary's University, and Stevenson University (formerly Villa Julie College). If a book is needed from one of our partner libraries, please see the instructions entitled Books Quick from MIC.
Before placing an interlibrary loan request for a journal article, please consult the Journal Finder at Hood to determine if we have the journal title you need. All journal articles that are not at Hood must be requested through Interlibrary Loan.
General Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Policies
- Only Hood College faculty, staff, and currently-enrolled students may use ILL.
- We do not charge for ILL services and any journal article you receive you may keep.
- To renew ILL books, e-mail or call the Interlibrary Loan Office. Please reference the ILL number found on the paper book band.
Policy on Multiple Interlibrary Loan Requests
- Any number of Interlibrary Loan requests may be submitted, but a maximum of ten (10) requests per week per user will be processed unless alternative arrangements have been made.
- Any student who needs to proceed quickly with requests exceeding the maximum should call the Reference Desk at (301) 696-3915 to schedule an appointment to discuss his or her project, and to explore more readily available resources. However, if the student can demonstrate a pressing need, and if the reference librarian concurs that ILL is the student's only recourse, we will waive the 10-item-per-week limit.
- If the limit is not waived and requests by any individual patron are above ten in any given week, the remaining requests will be processed at the rate of ten per week until all have been completed.
- Please request only the number of books that can be read in a two-to-three-week period, which is the usual borrowing time limit.
