FREDERICK, Maryland—The Hood College Department of Music will present the 33rd Annual Summer Chamber Music Festival in five concerts June 22 through July 27.
The festival will begin June 22 with the Appalachian Wind Quintet. On June 29, three former students of Noel Lester will play a piano concert. The July 13 concert will feature the Guilford Trio, including soprano, viola and piano music. Former members of the Maryland Concert Opera will perform July 20. The festival will conclude with the Phyllis and Ardine Gorden Concert featuring piano chamber music July 27. All concerts are at 7:30 p.m. in Brodbeck Music Hall.
The festival’s founder and a frequent performer, Noel Lester, fell ill just over a year ago and passed away in November. Last summer’s series was presented in honor of him; this year’s concerts will be in memory of him and will feature many of his colleagues and friends. Each of this summer’s concerts was designed by the Lester family to reflect Noel’s legacy and wide circle of influence.
In addition to supporting the summer series, the Hood College Department of Music has established the Noel K. Lester Concert Fund to establish an endowment that will fund a special concert each year in his memory. Donations marked as “Noel K. Lester Concert Fund” may be sent to the Hood College Office of Advancement, 401 Rosemont Ave., Frederick, MD 21701.
